Our block's solar co-op just collapsed after 9 months of work

Got the email at 7 AM that the installer we picked went bankrupt, right before we were set to sign 14 contracts. We did all the legwork, got the group discount locked in, even had a city grant lined up from Portland. Now everyone has to start over with individual quotes, which are gonna be way higher than what we had. Anyone else had a group buying project fall apart at the finish line, and did you manage to salvage it?

Hold on, are you sure starting over with individual quotes is actually the worst outcome here? I get the frustration, but that group discount might not have been as good as you think once you factor in the installer going belly up and leaving you with zero warranty on their work. The city grant is the real loss, but that money should still be there if you reapply or ask to roll it over to a new contractor. Honestly, 14 families now get to shop around with actual leverage on their own, and you can still share numbers with each other in a group chat. The co-op dying might be a blessing in disguise if it keeps you from signing with a company that was already broke.
