Our street's rain garden finally worked after 2 months of doubt

I kept seeing neighbors roll their eyes when our block in Minneapolis put in a rain garden by the storm drain. After the 3 inch downpour last Tuesday, the water pooled exactly where it should and drained in 20 minutes instead of flooding the crosswalk. It's a small thing, but it made me realize people think these projects are pointless until they see them in action. Has anyone else had a local climate fix that needed a good storm to win people over?

and honestly it took my own street like 6 months before people stopped parking on ours and treating it like a ditch. once the city put those little signs up saying it filters runoff, suddenly everyone had an opinion about the tall grass. then we got a 2 inch storm and the water just vanished, meanwhile the next block over had a literal lake at the corner. now my neighbor lady who complained the loudest is out there with her pitchfork pulling weeds around the new plants. it's funny how one solid rain event does more for community buy-in than any pamphlet or public meeting ever could.
