Stop acting like buying carbon offsets is the same as actually cutting emissions
I run a pest control business and last year I switched my trucks to a mix of electric and biodiesel. Cost me a lot upfront but I cut my fuel use by 60%. Meanwhile I got a client who brags about buying carbon offsets for their flights while they drive a gas guzzler to the store 2 blocks away. Offsets are a bandaid, not a fix. Anyone else sick of people using them as a guilt pass instead of changing what they actually do?

Hated offsets until this post showed me the real problem.

the real problem" is exactly it. Read something similar from @robin628 earlier that clicked for me.

Catch yourself noticing that same pattern everywhere once you see it. Like how people complain about traffic jams until they realize the problem isn't the cars but the way the roads were designed in the first place. Same thing with budgets or scheduling or even just planning dinner. We blame the tool or the method when really it's the underlying assumption that's broken. Makes you wonder how many other things we hate for the wrong reasons.
