The heat pump rebate form made me rethink my whole stance
I used to roll my eyes at people pushing heat pumps, figured they were just trendy gadgets for rich folks. Then my AC died in July and the quote to replace it was $9,800 in Austin. The HVAC guy mentioned the city utility rebate plus the federal one, and the paperwork was tedious but I got $2,100 back. That got me adding up my electric bill for the last 6 months, and the heat pump runs way cheaper than my old unit ever did. What really flipped me though was watching my neighbor install one on a fixed income, the rebates plus financing made it cheaper than a basic AC. So my question is, why are we still arguing about whether these things work when the math is right there on the receipts? Has anyone else been surprised by a rebate or incentive they almost skipped because of the paperwork hassle?
