Watching my neighbor in Denver water his lawn at noon made me finally get it

Last week, I saw him out there with the sprinkler going full blast while the sun was directly overhead. I realized most of it was just evaporating before it even hit the ground. I looked it up and found out watering in the early morning can cut your outdoor water use by like 30 percent. Anyone else have a simple switch that made a big difference in their water bill and waste?

Look, my water bill in Phoenix is like 80 bucks a month even in summer. I set my sprinklers to run at 2 PM because that's when my kids are napping and the noise doesn't bug anyone. If the city wants me to change, they should give a real discount, not just a pat on the back. A few gallons lost to evaporation is nothing compared to the golf courses they keep green out here.

It's the same with people running their sprinklers in the rain. You see it all the time, just a basic lack of paying attention to what's happening right in front of them.

I mean, that's a huge waste, but it got me wondering. Do you think most people just don't know the basics, or is it more about not caring because the water bill isn't high enough? Like, I had to learn about watering times from my dad, it wasn't ever obvious to me. Maybe we need better info from the city or something.
