Blew $600 on a hydraulic chuck rebuild kit that didn't even fit my machine
Tbh I'm still mad about this one. Our old Kitagawa chuck on the lathe started losing grip pressure so instead of calling a tech I ordered a rebuild kit online for $600 from some site that swore it was the right one for my model. Took the chuck apart on a Saturday, got grease everywhere, and the jaw slides were about 2mm off so nothing would seat. Ended up eating the cost and paying another $1,100 for the real kit from the dealer who quoted me 3 weeks lead time. Anyone got a source for rebuild kits that actually cross references the serial number right?
Been there with a Kitagawa chuck that ate a cheap kit the same way, the jaw slides were off just enough that nothing seated right. Now I always measure the actual slide width and bore with calipers first, then call the dealer with the serial number off the chuck body before ordering anything online. That 2mm gap you hit is usually the difference between a generic kit and a model-specific one, so matching by serial beats trusting whatever the site claims fits.
