Boss wants us running aluminum dry, I say keep the coolant flowing

Ran 40 parts dry on the 4140 last Tuesday and the inserts were shot by noon, but he swears coolant is just a crutch. Any of you run alum dry on purpose or am I right that he's cooking our tooling?

Didn't some shop test dry vs wet and dry ate way more inserts?
