I was at the big manufacturing trade show in Chicago and saw a booth where they said their new control software could run a 5-axis job with zero manual offsets.

Half the guys I was with said that's impossible and just marketing hype, while the other half argued the tech is finally there and we're just being stubborn, so what's your take on fully automated setups?

My shop bought a similar system two years ago and we still have a dedicated laptop just for its error messages. The tech told us our vise was "non-standard" and threw a fit.

Watched a guy try to use one of those "zero touch" systems last year. He spent more time talking to the tech support line than he would have just touching off the tools himself. The software kept asking if the part was "in a happy place." My old manual mill never needed a mood check.

Did the part ever find its happy place?
