My apprentice made me rethink how I set up work offsets
I have been running CNC mills for 12 years now and always set my G54 the same way. Last Tuesday my new apprentice asked why I dont use a dowel pin for my origin instead of touching off every time. He showed me how he did it on his old Haas and I saved 8 minutes on the next setup. I have been doing it the hard way for over a decade and this kid just waltzed in and fixed it. Anyone else had a younger guy show you a trick that made you feel dumb?

That apprentice is probably gonna ask for a raise next week.

Had a buddy whose apprentice asked for time off every Friday for three months straight. Boss said yes because the kid was decent, but then he started leaving early on Thursdays too. Next thing you know, he's requesting a "compensation adjustment" to cover all the missed hours.

That's always how it starts, give an inch and they take a mile. Boss was probably trying to be nice but that kid just saw a door he could push open. Now he's asking for more money for hours he wasn't even there. Some people just don't get that flexibility is a privilege, not something you're owed. Gotta wonder how long before he asks for Thursdays off too.
