Overheard a new guy say "just hit the green button and walk away"

Was showing a dude how to set up a production run on the Haas VF-2 last Thursday and he says that right in front of our old timer foreman. Foreman just stared at him for like 20 seconds then walked off muttering about broken inserts. Has anyone else had a rookie say something that made the whole shop go quiet?

Buddy of mine hit the green button on a Mori and the chuck opened mid-cycle.

That "green button and walk away" thing is like a loaded gun in a machine shop... seen it a million times. The old timers know that green button gets you fired faster than a broken endmill if something goes wrong. Had a kid about three years ago say basically the same thing, and our lead setup guy just pointed at the stack of scrapped parts from the last guy who thought that way. It's the kind of talk that makes you wonder if they read the safety manual on the way in or just watched a YouTube video. The foreman muttering about broken inserts was him being polite honestly... I've heard way worse. That phrase should be in the "things you never say in a shop" list right next to "that'll hold.

My cousin tried that green button and walk away move on a lathe about five years ago. He figured he had time to grab coffee while it ran. Came back to a tool holder that looked like it got in a fight with a blender and lost bad. The part was still spinning but it was just a metal blur at that point. When the foreman walked by he didn't even yell, just shook his head and handed my cousin a broom. I swear that broom was for sweeping up his dignity off the floor.
