PSA: Getting the feed speed right on my lathe stopped a part from warping

I was turning a long, skinny shaft and it kept bending until I slowed the feed down a touch. Now the cuts are cleaner and the part stays straight, which is a huge relief. It's one of those little adjustments that makes all the difference, lol.

My buddy kept having thin parts bend on his old lathe until he tried a slower feed rate. The change fixed his warping problem for good across several jobs. Sometimes the simple tweaks really do stick.

Back in my shop class days, we ran the feed as fast as the lathe would go. Slowing it down a touch stopping warping sounds too easy. Heat buildup and tool wear cause more issues than feed rate in my experience. This feels like one of those tips that works once but isn't a real solution. Let me know if it holds up on the next ten parts you turn.

My old foreman always said slow feeds win races on thin stock.

Watched my friend slow his lathe feed on a tricky part. He hasn't seen warping since, @derek_green3.
