Saw a guy in Ohio running coolant wrong and it clicked for me
I was at a shop in Dayton last March watching this older machinist flood the part with coolant from a single nozzle. I always ran mine with two nozzles at different angles. He told me "one stream right at the cut does more than two spraying everywhere." I tried it on my next job with a stainless part and got way better chip evacuation. Has anyone else found that simpler setups work better than overcomplicating things?

The whole "it clicked for me" thing feels a bit dramatic for coolant nozzles. Like, we're talking about aiming a hose at metal, not solving world hunger. That older machinist probably just had strong opinions and you ran with the first thing that worked once. Stainless is finicky anyway, so maybe that part would have turned out fine with your old setup too. I've seen guys swear by all kinds of random shop wisdom that doesn't hold up when you change materials or machines. Truth is, most of this stuff is just habit mixed with luck.

Pretty sure the real trick is just getting the nozzle aimed exactly where the chip is being formed, not how many streams you've got going. Hard to argue with results though if it worked for you on that stainless job.

Gave up on my dual nozzle setup after watching a guy in Toledo run a single stream right where the chip piled up. Tried it on some 4140 and the difference in heat control was night and day. Always thought more coolant meant better coverage but really it just made a mess and wasted fluid. One good stream beats two that are just keeping the area wet.
