Spent $400 on that fancy coolant mist collector and it clogged within a month

I run a Haas VF-2 at a shop in Denver and figured the high end separator would save me cleaning headaches. After maybe 4 weeks the internal filter was totally gummed up and the suction dropped to nothing. Ended up going back to the basic $80 mesh system we had before. Has anyone else had bad luck with those expensive mist collector units?

Read somewhere those fancy units can't handle the coolant mist from high pressure pumps.

Man I hear you @allen.kai, that's the thing with all the over-engineered stuff these days - they design for perfect conditions but real shops are messy and full of grit. It's like people forget that simple solutions usually win because they're easier to fix when stuff goes wrong. A little extra maintenance on a basic setup beats a complicated fix any day.

Had the same worry with my Haas, ended up adding a simple mist collector and it's been running fine for two years now. The key is keeping the filters clean every few weeks.
