Can we talk about the guy at a Boise library who said to type the code by hand instead of copy paste?
Back in 2016 I was learning Python off YouTube and kept copying code from the video into my editor, and it never worked. A retired guy at the Boise library computer lab watched me struggle for 20 minutes and told me to close the video and retype the whole thing from memory. I thought it was a waste of time, but after 3 rounds of retyping a silly guess the number game I finally saw where I kept missing a colon. Now I still do it when a tutorial makes no sense, though it takes forever. Does anyone else type stuff out by hand, or am I just slow?
Took a pottery class once where the teacher made us write down each step of centering clay before touching the wheel, and I thought it was the dumbest thing. By the third week my hands knew the order without me thinking about it, kind of like what happened to you with that colon. Something about the slow version sticks in your brain in a way that pasting never will.
