I used to spend 2 hours debugging a single typo in Python

When I first started coding 6 months ago, I'd stare at my screen forever trying to find missing colons or brackets. Then I started using a linter plugin for VS Code and now it catches those mistakes in like 2 seconds. Has anyone else had a tool totally change how fast they learn?

A coworker of mine used to miss semicolons constantly when he was learning JavaScript. His scripts would fail and he'd spend half an hour hunting through lines of code. The day he installed Prettier, he told me it felt like cheating at first.

It's wild how many things in life have that "cheating at first" feeling until you realize you were just making things harder on yourself for no reason. Eventually you wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

Exactly. The whole "cheating" thing is just pride getting in the way of working smarter. Nobody gets a trophy for doing things the hard way. That coworker with Prettier probably saved himself hours of frustration and he can put that energy into actually learning the language instead of hunting typos. The sooner you accept that the tools exist to help you, the faster you get good at the real stuff that matters. It's like a mechanic refusing to use an impact wrench because he wants to feel like he earned that lug nut turning by hand. Waste of time and effort.
