My bootcamp mentor in Austin pulled up my GitHub on a projector and asked why the last commit was 11 days old
I was three weeks into learning Python and thought I could just study for a while before building anything real. He pulled up my profile in front of the whole Friday group and there it was, 11 days since my last push, and the whole room got quiet. I had been doing tutorials nonstop but never putting anything up, so it looked like I quit. He said on the spot that nobody hires from a private repo and nobody remembers what you watched. So now I push something small every single day, even if it is broken garbage. What got you to finally start committing instead of just watching videos?
nobody hires from a private repo" hits way too close to home, my GitHub looked like a graveyard for months while I binged tutorials like it was Netflix. My first real commit was literally a broken calculator that only added positive numbers, but hey, at least it was PUBLIC.
