Shoutout to my kitchen timer for saving my coding focus

I spent all yesterday trying to learn functions in Python without moving. My head started to ache and my eyes got blurry. A friend told me to try setting a timer for breaks every twenty minutes. I grabbed my old kitchen timer and gave it a shot. After each break, I felt more clear and solved problems faster. This small change made a big impact on how I learn code. What tricks do you use to keep your mind sharp during long study hours?

Timers can actually break your flow state just when you're getting deep into a problem. That constant interruption every twenty or twenty five minutes, like kim.margaret suggests, might train your brain to stop focusing for longer stretches. I've found that letting myself get fully absorbed for a couple hours straight leads to way better understanding than chopped up sessions. The forced breaks feel more like a distraction than a help once you really get going on a tough coding challenge.

Tbh, set your timer for 25 minutes instead of 20. Honestly, the Pomodoro method uses 25-minute work blocks and it just feels more effective. I also make sure to actually leave my desk during breaks, even if it's just to grab water. Ngl, staring at something far away for a minute really helps my eyes. That combo keeps me from burning out during long sessions.

Wait, didn't you start that like six months ago?

Switched to a Pomodoro timer last month and it changed everything. @kim.margaret's tip about 25-minute blocks is spot on. I force myself to do ten push-ups during each break to get blood flowing. That physical burst keeps my brain alert for the next coding sprint.
