Vent: My family's loud TV time clashes with my coding hours

I've been trying to learn basic Python after work, but my family always has the TV on full blast in the living room. That's where I usually sit with my laptop because the table is big. The noise from their shows makes it impossible to hear my online tutorials or focus on the code. Last night, I was following a lesson on loops and someone turned up a car chase scene right when I needed to listen. I had to replay the same part three times and still got confused. I asked if they could lower the volume, but they said it's family time and I should join. Now I'm stuck trying to code late at night when everyone's asleep, which tires me out. If you're learning at home, maybe find a quiet corner or talk to your family about your study schedule early on.

Yeah I used to think that too, but grayr72 changed my mind.

Ever think family time could include your coding practice?

Actually, you're onto something, grayr72. We could turn it into a collaborative project, like building a simple game together. That way it's a shared activity instead of me just staring at a screen alone.

Turning it into a collaborative project is a really smart shift. How would you even start something like that with family members who have zero coding experience? I saw @angela355 said her mind was changed, so I'm curious what that first step looks like. The hard part seems like keeping it fun for everyone and not just turning into a lecture.
