AeroPress trick I thought was dumb until my cousin showed me
My cousin Jake came over last weekend with his AeroPress and did the inverted method. I always thought it was just extra steps for no reason. He made me taste the difference though with the same beans. The regular brew was fine but the inverted one had way more body and flavor. I've been doing it that way for a week now and I'm annoyed at how much better it is. Anyone else have a coffee method they shrugged off at first?

I remember reading something about how the inverted method keeps more of the coffee's natural oils in the brew, because the paper filter doesn't get saturated until you flip it. Makes sense with what parkerbrown said about the finer grind too, since more surface area helps extract those oils slower. I've been meaning to give it a try after hearing the same thing from a friend who swears by it.

So why go through all that trouble just to get something that still isn't a real French press? I tried the inverted method for a week and went back. The cleanup is way more annoying cause you risk spilling hot coffee everywhere when you flip it. And honestly, the extra body people talk about just makes it taste muddier to me. I like my coffee clean and bright, not thick with all those oils floating around. Plus, if you're using good beans, the regular AeroPress already makes a great cup without needing to play acrobat with your brewer. Feels like people just overcomplicate things for internet cred.

oh man the inverted method is a total game changer. i was the same way, thought it was some overhyped instagram bullshit. but honestly once you get the hang of it, the difference is night and day. the key is letting the coffee steep longer before you flip it. i also started grinding my beans a little finer for it and that really brings out the oils. like your cousin said, the body is so much richer, it almost feels like a french press but without all the sludge.
