French press vs Aeropress for my morning routine, one clearly won

I spent 6 months using a French press every morning (the classic Bodum one) and always ended up with sludge in my last sip. Switched to an Aeropress 3 weeks ago and the difference is night and day. Clean cup every time, easier to clean up too. Anyone else find the French press overrated once you try something better?

Oh come on, is it really that deep? I've been using a French press for years and yeah, you get a little bit of silt at the bottom but just don't drink the last sip. Problem solved. My friend swears by Aeropress and I tried his and it was fine, but I don't get the hype like it changed his life or something. Plus there's something nice about the whole ritual of the French press, letting it steep, pushing the plunger down slow. Different tools for different people, right?

Man, I'm right there with you. That ritual part is huge for me too, there's just something about the slow plunge and watching it bloom that feels right. I've been down the Aeropress road and yeah it makes a clean cup but it felt more like a science experiment than a morning coffee. And the cleanup thing people always bring up, I mean you rinse the mesh and toss the grounds, same as anything else. The silt thing really doesn't bother me either, it's part of the character of the brew. You're spot on that different tools fit different people, no point in arguing one is the absolute best.

Yeah exactly, that "science experiment" feeling is what got me too. I found if you just use the French press lid as a makeshift measuring cup for your grounds it cuts down on the mess a whole lot, keeps it simple.

Gotta hard disagree with you here @phoenix246, the Aeropress is genuinely way cleaner and faster with way less cleanup than dealing with that sludge at the bottom of a French press lol.
