Hot take: pre-wetting your filter paper is a waste of time for most brews
I used to be religious about rinsing my V60 filters with hot water before brewing. Did it for like 2 years straight because all the YouTube guys said it gets rid of paper taste and heats up the dripper. Then one morning I was running late for my mail route and skipped it out of pure laziness. Honestly I could not tell a single difference in the cup. It was still clean, still good temp, nothing changed. So I tried skipping it for a whole week with different beans and honestly even the washed light roast Kenyan tasted exactly the same. I get that thick paper filters or certain Chemex filters might need it but for standard Hario papers I think it's just extra steps for no real gain. Anyone else ditch this step and not notice a thing?

Damn, you might be onto something. I've been wasting hot water for years.

Have you tried turning the water off while you soap up? I do that at truck stops to save the hot water for rinsing. Saves me a solid few minutes of heating time every shower.

Oh I tried that once and forgot I was soaped up and answered the door.
