My espresso machine blew a gasket mid-pull this morning

I was pulling my second shot around 6:30 AM and heard a hiss, then water started spraying out the side of the group head. Turns out the brew gasket just gave up after 18 months of daily use. I had to tear it apart, order a replacement from Seattle Coffee Gear for $12, and run to the gas station for a drip coffee to survive. Has anyone else had a gasket fail without any warning signs beforehand?

wait hold on, $12 for a brew gasket? thats actually cheap, i figured those things would cost way more. i had to replace mine last year and it was like $25 from some random site and i was mad about it. but man, 18 months of daily use and it just blew out with zero warning? thats rough, especially at 6:30 in the morning when youre already half asleep. i always check mine every few months now after a similar scare, just a quick look to see if theres any cracking or bulging. honestly glad you didnt get scalded or anything, those things can really spray hot water if they let go.

Used to skip checking mine, but this thread changed my mind.

Sandra beat me to it, my cat watched the whole gasket blowout like it was Live PD.
