My french press exploded grounds all over my kitchen this morning
I woke up at 6am and did my usual routine with the same press I've used for 3 years. Pushed the plunger down and somehow the glass just shattered sending hot coffee and grounds everywhere. Cleanup took me 45 minutes and I burned my hand a little. Has anyone else had a press fail on them like this or did I just get unlucky with a bad batch of glass?

Your press was 3 years old? That's way past its lifespan for a glass carafe. The constant heat cycling weakens the glass over time and it eventually gives out. You're lucky you didn't get seriously hurt honestly. I'd switch to a stainless steel French press or just buy a replacement glass carafe if you really want to keep using it. But that was a ticking time bomb waiting to happen.

The whole "ticking time bomb" thing makes me think of my buddy Dave. He had this old glass press he got from a thrift store and swore by it. One morning he's in his boxers half asleep, pushes the plunger, and the bottom just drops out. Coffee and sludgy grounds went all over his bare feet and the linoleum. He said it looked like a crime scene, had to hop around on one foot trying to clean it up. He switched to a steel one after that too, but man, he still brings it up at parties.
