My morning brew routine went from blah to amazing in just 2 weeks

I switched from a basic drip machine to a French press after reading about it on here, and the difference in flavor is NIGHT and day. Before, my coffee tasted flat and weak, but now I get this rich, oily texture that actually wakes me up. Has anyone else had their whole routine change after trying a different brewing method?

Two weeks into my French press I actually switched back to drip. I know that's not the popular opinion around here but hear me out. The sludge at the bottom of every single cup drove me crazy no matter how careful I was with the plunge. I tried different grinds, different water temps, even that whole James Hoffmann method and still ended up chewing my last sip. For me the smoothness of a paper filter beats that oily texture every time.

@avery_jackson that velvet texture description is EXACTLY what got me too. But here's something nobody talks about: the cleanup changed my whole relationship with my morning. I used to dread scroutin' the old drip carafe with the soap ring, but plunging a French press and dumping the grounds in the compost feels like a tiny victory before 7am. It's less wasteful too since you're not tossing those paper filters every day.

I mean I used to think a French press was just for hipsters who wanted to muddy up their coffee honestly. But after my buddy let me try his at our camping trip last summer I totally ate my words. The texture is way different than drip, almost like a thick velvet in your mouth and it doesn't burn your tongue as much. I got one for myself the next week and now I can't go back to that watery stuff from my old Mr. Coffee machine. It's weird how one little change makes the whole morning feel more, I don't know, intentional.
