My old French press exploded in my kitchen sink last Tuesday

I was cleaning it with water that was way too hot, and the glass just gave out. Anyone else had a press crack on them like that?

Doubt it, mine cracked from a simple tap on the faucet.

Could the sudden temperature change have weakened the glass over time?

Yeah, @hollyl25, thermal shock is a real glass killer.
