Switched from pour-over to AeroPress after trying my buddy's setup
His cup was way cleaner and brighter with zero bitterness. Now I'm wondering if I wasted 6 months dialing in my V60 for nothing.

Man I feel you, I spent 3 months on a V60 convinced I was making "art" when really I was just pouring hot water over coffee grounds like some kind of ritual. Matt from my old job showed me his AeroPress and I literally dumped my V60 in the trash that night. The bitterness difference is no joke - I thought I was just bad at pour-over but turns out the AeroPress just doesn't punish you for existing. You didn't waste time though, you built character or whatever.

Did you find that the AeroPress fixed that muddiness you get with some V60 brews, or is it more about the overall taste being brighter? I've heard the same thing from a few people, and it makes me wonder if @parkerbrown was onto something about the V60 being a bit of a gamble. Always appreciated a clean cup, but I guess I never questioned whether my own method was the problem.

Good heavens, a whole six months dedicated to the art of not spilling water wrong. I'd say you earned a medal for that, but it sounds like you just earned a much better cup of coffee instead. Don't feel too bad, the V60 is basically a high-stakes game where the house always wins eventually. You just found the easy mode button, no shame in that.
