That $28 burr grinder study changed how I think about my setup
I read a piece from a coffee lab at UC Davis a couple weeks ago that tested blade grinders against burr grinders and the particle size spread on the blade one was way bigger than I expected, something like 400 microns between the finest and coarsest grounds. Everyone online says a cheap hand grinder is the bare minimum, but this test showed the gap between a $28 blade grinder and a mid range burr grinder was smaller than the gap between that burr grinder and a flat burr setup. I've been using a hand grinder for two years and now I'm questioning if the upgrade treadmill is even real. Did anyone else see that study or am I misreading the particle data?
