The $4 scale that made me question my whole espresso routine

Tbh I've been doing espresso for about 6 years now, always using the same 1:2 ratio and calling it good. Last week my buddy Mike brought over this tiny $4 digital scale from Amazon and made me weigh my output. I was getting like 41 grams out of an 18 gram dose, not 36. Turns out my shot timer on my machine starts late and I had been eyeballing it forever. That little plastic scale exposed 6 years of over-extracted shots. Has anyone else had a cheap tool ruin their confidence in their setup? What did you adjust after that?
