Update: My pour-over tasted like dirt for a year until I started using filtered water from the grocery store.

Switched from my apartment's tap to a $1.50 gallon jug last week. The clarity is insane, like I'm drinking a different bean. Anyone else's water that bad?

The rust tea comment hit close to home. My place isn't that bad, but the tap water here leaves a chalky white crust on my kettle after a few boils. Switched to the gallon jugs and the difference was immediate. That metallic tang just disappeared from the brew. It is wild how much the water quality can mask the actual bean flavor.

Wow, a year of dirt coffee. My condolences to your taste buds. Your apartment's pipes must be brewing their own special mineral blend. At least the fix was cheaper than a new machine.

My old building in Queens had water like that. The super called it "rust tea" and acted like it was normal. I started buying those big jugs of spring water just for my coffee pot. The sink water left a weird film on everything.
