Vent: The cold brew hype is overrated and here is why
I spent 3 months trying to perfect cold brew at home. I bought a 20 dollar mason jar filter system and followed every YouTube tutorial. But every batch came out tasting like bitter dirt. Finally I just dumped my grounds into room temp water and left it on the counter for 12 hours. Drank it yesterday and it was the smoothest coffee I have had in years. Makes me wonder if all those expensive gadgets are just a scam. Anyone else find a simpler way that worked better than the fancy methods?

Haven't you found the secret is just time and room temp water, not fancy gear?

Honestly, my first really decent loaf came after I stopped trying to follow some bread influencer's exact method with a fancy thermometer and a special Dutch oven. I just left the dough on the counter for like 8 hours one day because I forgot about it, and it turned out perfect. Room temp water and time are seriously all you need to develop that nice flavor and structure. I feel like all the gear just makes people think they need to do something complicated when really you just have to wait. It's nice to hear someone else say it because I was starting to feel like I was missing a secret step or something.
