Why I threw out my drip tray after one comment from a barista in Austin
Honestly I used to be the guy who saved every drop from my espresso machine and poured it back into the next shot. Last month a barista at a shop on South Congress watched me do it and just said 'that's stale and bitter, you're undoing your whole grind.' I tried a blind taste test with two identical shots, one with the recycled stuff and one fresh, and the fresh one won 4 out of 5 sips. Ngl that little tray had been sitting on my counter for like 8 months collecting oils I never thought about. Now I dump it every morning and my shots taste cleaner by a long shot. Has anyone else been reusing drip tray liquid without thinking about it?
