Can we talk about my refund check mix up at the deli counter
Last Saturday at the Kroger on 5th, I bought a turkey club for $8.99 and paid with a $20. The cashier handed me back $11.01, but I was so busy scrolling my phone I just walked off without counting. Got to my car, counted it, and realized she gave me $12.01 by mistake. I stood there for a solid minute deciding if I should go back, because my brain said "free dollar" but I knew it was wrong. I walked back in and gave it to her, and she looked at me like I was a unicorn. Has anyone else had that split second where doing the right thing feels like the harder choice, and you almost convince yourself it's okay? Why is one dollar such a trip?

That "free dollar" moment hit me right in the gut because I had the exact same thing happen at a gas station last month. The clerk gave me back an extra five and I stood there in the parking lot for a good two minutes trying to talk myself out of returning it. I went back in and handed it over, and honestly the relief I felt walking out was worth way more than that five bucks, but man, that split second where your brain tries to justify it is a real trip.
