Heard a coworker say electric cars aren't any greener than gas ones because of the batteries
It got me thinking about my own belief that EVs are always better, but then I looked up the mining for lithium and cobalt and now I'm not sure where I stand, so has anyone else had this back and forth about the full lifecycle of electric vehicles?

Have you looked at how long an EV actually lasts compared to a gas car? I went through the same thing, so I just focused on how many miles you can get out of the battery, and most newer ones are lasting 200k+ miles now. The mining is definitely not clean, but when you factor in drilling, transporting, and burning oil every week for 15 years, the battery production starts looking like a one-time mess versus an ongoing one. I just check my local electricity source too, if yours is mostly coal it changes the math a lot.

Does your grid get cleaner each year or are you stuck with coal?
