Heard a guy at the auto shop say premium gas is a scam for most cars and it got me thinking
I was waiting for my oil change at a Firestone in Portland last Tuesday and this mechanic told a customer that putting 93 octane in a Honda Civic is just burning money. I always thought premium meant better for the engine but he showed me the owner's manual for the guy's car and it said 87 was fine. Has anyone else realized they were wasting cash on gas because of marketing hype?

Read somewhere that some cars actually need premium to avoid knocking, so it's not always a scam.

Wait, so @miller.rowan, you're saying I could've saved like forty bucks a month this whole time? I had a 2014 Ford Focus that I always filled with premium because I thought it was like, cleaning the engine or something. Turns out the manual says 87 is totally fine and I was just feeding the gas station's profit margins for no reason.
