I always thought I'd help my kid with homework, but last night I told him to figure it out himself.
My son had a tough math problem, and my belief is that parents should be patient helpers. I was tired from work and just said, 'Look it up, you know how.' He got it right on his own after 20 minutes. It felt wrong to not step in, but it worked. Has anyone else felt bad for not helping, only to see it was the better choice?

Honestly, letting them fail hard is a terrible way to learn though.

Man, this reminds me of when my buddy tried to fix his own brakes without watching a single video. He was so sure he could figure it out. Ended up with the caliper hanging off and his car stuck in the driveway for a week. He learned, but man, that was a rough and expensive week for him. Sometimes the hard lesson sticks, but it sure costs you.
