I've always said I'm a patient person, but my reaction to a flat tire yesterday proved me wrong.

I was heading to a friend's place in Springfield, got a flat on the interstate, and I just started yelling at the empty car... I know getting mad doesn't fix anything, but I couldn't stop. Has anyone else snapped over something small and realized you're not the person you thought you were?

Springfield? That's the part that got me. You were almost there, man. That last stretch when you can see the exit is the absolute worst time for a car to give up. I'd have lost it too. It's not about the tire, it's about the universe picking the most annoying moment possible to mess with you. Shows you what you're really made of when plans fall apart.

Remember that time I tried to bake a cake from scratch for my mom's birthday? Everything was fine until the very last step, when I went to pull it out of the oven and just dropped the whole pan on the floor. All that work, right at the finish line, just gone. It's that specific flavor of defeat that makes you want to just sit down on the kitchen floor and laugh. You're right, it's never about the cake or the tire, it's about the timing. It feels like a personal joke from the world.

I mean, the Springfield exit is actually like three miles past the tire shop.
