Medical study made me give up my anti-vitamin stance

I was dead set against taking vitamin D supplements for years. Read some blog posts that said they were a scam and just expensive pee. Then my doctor showed me a 2019 study from the University of Colorado linking low vitamin D to bone density loss in people my age. My levels came back at 18 ng/mL, which is basically deficient. Been taking 2000 IU daily for 3 months now and my follow up bloodwork jumped to 45. Still feels weird admitting I was wrong. Anyone else have a hard time changing your mind on health stuff after digging your heels in?

Wait did the blogs actually say they were a scam or just that you don't need them if you get enough sun? Because that's two different things. What made you trust those blogs over your doctor in the first place? I'm curious if it was the writing style that hooked you or something else. Like were they using scary words like "toxins" or "big pharma" to make it sound more legit?

Oh MAN that is a REALLY good question! I actually fell for one of those blogs because they had a whole section about how supplements give you "toxic liver sludge" and I was like, woah that sounds BAD. Never mind that my doctor literally had lab results showing I was deficient. And the writing was so CONFIDENT, you know? They used all these scary words and made it sound like they had secret knowledge that doctors were hiding. I remember @susanb34, my cousin actually went through the same thing with her iron pills - she stopped taking them for months because some blog said red meat was the only natural source. Turns out she was just exhausted and passing out at work for no reason. The blogs are SO good at making you feel smart for doubting your doctor, that's the real trick.

Toxic liver sludge" - lol I bet that blog had a picture of a dirty fish tank next to the headline too. It's wild how a phrase like that sounds scary until you realize your liver is literally designed to filter sludge, that's its whole job. Honestly I think those blogs are just mad they can't charge $80 a bottle for sunshine.
