My dog's vet told me to stop using memory foam beds and switch to a flat mat. Turns out she was right.
My corgi started limping last month and I spent $200 on those orthopedic memory foam beds thinking it would help her joints. The vet came over for a house call (she's a mobile vet, costs extra but worth it) and took one look at the dog's bed and said the foam was actually causing her to sleep wrong and aggravating her hip. She said corgis do better with firm flat surfaces because of their long backs. I was so sure I was helping but I was making it worse. Went out and got a $25 flat gym mat from Target and within 4 days the limping stopped. Has anyone else had an experience where a 'helpful' product actually made things worse for their pet?

Respectfully @the_alice, labs and corgis have totally different body types so that makes sense.

Whoa hold on, I gotta push back here. My old lab had the exact opposite problem - switching her to a firm mat made her elbows so sore she couldn't get comfortable, and going back to a thick memory foam pad fixed everything in a week.
