My hot take on spoilers blew up in my face

I tell everyone that knowing how a story ends makes it better. Then my buddy casually dropped the finale of a series I was binge watching. I got so mad I almost threw my remote. Now I have to live with the fact that my own rule is trash. The mental gymnastics are honestly hilarious.

Fiona asked if the anger was about the spoiler or being proven wrong. In my experience, it's both at the same time. The spoiler itself stings because you lost that first time feeling. But the hypocrisy sting is its own special flavor of frustration. It's like getting mad at someone for tracking mud inside right after you did the same thing.

Remember when the internet was just fun surprises and not a minefield. Someone spoiled the big twist in that space show last year and it killed half the fun. Part of the joy is putting the pieces together yourself. Now I have to avoid half my feeds just to enjoy a new movie or game. It turns watching anything into a race against the clock.
