My dad said something about my car once, nothing mean, just that it was "a lot of truck for someone who doesn't haul anything." Bugged me for weeks. What helped was just asking him straight up what he meant by it, and it turned out he was really saying he worried I stretched myself too thin on the payments. So maybe go back at your uncle and ask him to say more about it, because half the time the thing that sticks is not even the real point they were making.
