My whole 'I'm not a morning person' identity just got wrecked by a 5am fishing trip

I've spent my whole life saying I hate mornings, that I'm useless before 10am. Then my buddy dragged me out on his boat in Tampa Bay before sunrise last weekend. I was grumpy, sure, but then I caught a 22-inch redfish as the sun came up, and it was the most peaceful hour I've had in years. Now I can't stop thinking about going again, even though it means getting up at 4. How do you deal with liking something that goes against a core thing you've always said about yourself?

That 22 inch redfish is a heck of a fish... I went out with my buddy last spring and we were skunked for hours, then I hooked into a 20 inch one right at sunset. Made the whole trip worth it, even though we spent all day getting sunburned and swatting mosquitoes. It's like the universe throws you a bone right when you're about to give up. Funny how one good catch can erase all the bad luck before it.

My last redfish was barely a foot long (sad, I know).

It's funny how that happens, like we all measure our days by these tiny wins or losses. My whole week can feel off because I burned my toast or missed a green light. We fixate on the one small thing that didn't go right, even if other stuff was fine. That little redfish just becomes the whole story of the trip.
