Paid $200 for a standing desk, my back pain got worse in a month

Bought one of those fancy electric desks at a Denver office supply store because sitting all day was killing me. First week felt great, but by week four my shoulders were knotting up and I couldn't sleep. Turns out the height preset I set put the keyboard too high, so I was hunching worse than before. Took a $40 ergonomic assessment online to learn the desk needs to sit at elbow level, not chest level. Anyone else spend big money on a fix that made things worse before it got better?

The $40 assessment did flag the keyboard height, but it also caught my monitor being about two inches too far back, which I never would've guessed on my own. That said, @henryp40, your point about chair height is spot on since the preset only works if your whole setup is aligned, not just the desk itself. It's easy to blame the desk at first, but the real fix is usually a mix of small tweaks over a few weeks, not one magic setting.

Wait, did the ergonomic assessment actually tell you your keyboard height was off, or did you figure that out on your own after the fact? The $40 seems like a good call but I'm curious if it caught other stuff too, like monitor distance or chair armrest positioning. Because I did the same thing with my desk, bought it used for half price, and spent three weeks adjusting it every single day before I got it right. My shoulders were wrecked too, but it turned out my chair was too low and I was reaching up like a little kid at the dinner table. How'd you even know to check the preset instead of just blaming the desk itself?
