Shoutout to the 10 minute rule I tried for my phone habit

I always said I valued focus, but I checked my phone about 50 times a day. Last month, I started leaving it in another room for the first 10 minutes of any task. It felt wrong, like I was missing out. But I finished my reports way faster. Has anyone else found a simple trick that went against their gut feeling but actually worked?

Honestly that sounds like overkill to me. People act like checking a notification is some huge crime against productivity. My phone's right here and I still get stuff done. Maybe the problem isn't the device, it's just poor time management in general.

Yeah totally get what you're saying skyler. For me though it really depends on the day. I used to think I could handle it all until I noticed I'd check my phone and then stare at the wall for five minutes after. @daniel140's point about the 90 second reset is spot on. I started doing the ten minute thing and it just made my work flow way smoother. Not saying everyone needs it but it helped me a lot.

The average phone check takes about 90 seconds to get back on track. That's a whole extra minute and a half lost every single time. So Skyler, if you check it 50 times like the post says, that's over an hour of broken focus every day. My brain feels scrambled when I let notifications lead the way, even if the task eventually gets done. The 10 minute rule just builds a buffer so you start from a calm place.

Poor time management" sounds like a cop out lol. The phone is the distraction, not your calendar.
