Spent 8 months treating my soil like dirt before a soil test in Portland showed I was killing everything

I was dumping synthetic fertilizer on my garden every month until a guy at the nursery asked for my pH numbers and I didn't even know what he meant, so has anyone else had that moment where you realize you've been making things worse not better?

Bro you literally just described my first two years of gardening. Bought all the fancy fertilizers and miracle grow and wondered why my tomatoes looked like garbage. Got a soil test from my extension office and turns out I had toxic levels of phosphorus and basically zero organic matter. Feel like gardening marketing just tells you to buy more stuff when really you need to stop and test first.
