That cashier in Tulsa made me rethink my whole recycling habit

I stood in line at the Reasor's on 71st Street with a bag of crushed cans, feeling smug about sorting them. The cashier, Darlene, just looked at me and said 'you know these go to the same landfill as the trash, right?' She pulled out her phone and showed me the city's waste report, and there it was: 63% of our recycling gets incinerated anyway. I still recycle, but now I feel like I'm lying to myself every time I drop a bottle in the bin. Anyone else find out their local program is basically a PR stunt?

The whole "landfill with extra steps" thing is what got me too. I looked up my county's numbers after that and found out we ship half our plastics to a plant that just burns them for power.
