That comment about my music taste stung but it was fair

I was at a party last Friday and someone said my playlist was "just radio hits from five years ago." At first I got defensive but then I looked at my liked songs and they were right. I have over 400 songs saved and maybe 30 of them came out after 2020. Has anyone else had a friend call them out on something like this and actually made you change a habit?

Took me a while to realize the same thing about my own listening habits. I got called out for always playing the same two albums from 2017 and it hurt my feelings at first. But then I thought about it and realized I was just stuck in a comfort zone where I already knew every word. Made me start a challenge where I add one new song each week from a different year or genre. It's actually been kind of fun finding stuff I'd normally skip over. Sometimes getting dragged like that is the push you need to break out of your own little bubble.

Yeah that's pretty relatable actually. I went through the same thing a couple years ago when my buddy said my playlists sounded like they were curated by a man who peaked in 2014. What helped me was the same kind of thing @the_ruby mentioned - I started a rule where every time I listen to a full album from my old rotation, I have to try one new release from that same artist or a similar genre. It broke me out of the loop without feeling like homework.

Did that rule actually stick or did you cheat after a month?
