That neighbor who tried to sell me on his lawn mowing strategy

An older guy named Frank stopped me by the fence in Birmingham maybe 3 years ago and told me I was cutting my grass too short, said I was basically scalping the turf. I argued with him for a solid 10 minutes about how it looked fine, then a dry spell hit and half my yard turned brown while his stayed green. Has anyone else had a random piece of advice from a stranger end up being totally right?

My buddy Kevin had some old dude at the hardware store tell him to switch to synthetic oil before a big road trip and he ignored it, then his engine blew up in the middle of Kansas lol.

Aw man, that's rough for Kevin. But @piperbailey, I gotta say the oil type probably wasn't the whole problem here. Switching to synthetic won't fix a motor that's already worn out or low on oil. More likely he was running low or had a leak he didn't notice. Synthetics help with heat and sludge, sure, but they can't stop a blown engine if something else is wrong. Hope Kevin made it home okay though, Kansas is a long way from nowhere.

Wait @taylorshah, didn't I read that Frank's trick is actually backed by lawn science?
