Probably just ticked a box for marketing without actually changing how they operate.

You're being too cynical. Some companies actually do change their whole operation when they make that shift, like Patagonia or Ben & Jerry's. It's a real pain in the ass to overhaul your supply chain and retrain everyone just for a marketing gimmick.
