A comic shop owner told me my pull list was too random
I used to grab whatever cover looked cool off the shelf, but the guy at Cosmic Collectibles in Austin said I was missing key story arcs and getting confused. He sat me down and showed me how to follow writers and artists instead of just jumping in blindly. Has anyone else had a store employee totally change how you pick your weekly reads?

Oh man, you said it @taylor.reese. I had the same kind of situation with a mechanic once, swore up and down he was saving me cash on a brake job. Dude ended up using the wrong pads, wore out my rotors in like three months. Cost me double in the long run. People get so confident about their "good deal" but they're just looking at the short term.

Think about how we pick so much in life based on the surface. You grab a comic because the cover looks cool, you buy a phone because it's shiny, you pick a restaurant because the sign is bright. But the real stuff, the story arcs and the quality of the parts, is hidden until you get burned. That store owner saw the pattern you were missing, that you were just reacting to the wrapper. It's like how people buy a house based on paint colors and not the foundation, then wonder why everything cracks. Most of us need someone to pull us back and show us the actual skeleton of the thing we're getting into.
