Dropped $180 on a graded copy of X-Men 141 at a con in Chicago and the case was cracked when I got home

The seller swore it was fine when I bought it and now I'm out the money plus shipping to get it regraded. Do you always open the case and check before you hand over cash at a con, or am I just too trusting?
